Vision

Melbourne Docklands is a unique waterfront development in the heart of Melbourne comprising around 200 hectares of land and water and seven kilometres of waterfront.

VicUrban, as the State Government’s sustainable urban development agency, is partnering with the private sector to develop Melbourne Docklands as a world-class mixed-use precinct with a dynamic blend of residential, commercial, retail and leisure activities through five core objectives:

A Place for Everyone – belonging to and offering quality experiences for residents, workers, investors, shoppers and visitors from Melbourne, regional Victoria, interstate and overseas.

A Thriving Water Place– by integrating a wide range of land and water-based activities, dining, retail, events and other attractions, seven days a week, to shape Docklands into a vibrant boating destination. Docklands is celebrated for its integration of the water, urban art, entertainment, technology, services, sports, heritage and culture with wide promenades and public open spaces. While Victoria Harbour is recognised as Melbourne’s ‘blue park’ – a stunning and well-used water place hosting a variety of uses.

Excellent in Design – with high quality, leading-edge design and public amenity in both the physical (buildings, public spaces, water and land) and virtual (activities, events and technology) form.

Environmentally responsible – by being recognised as a leader in well-designed, environmentally responsible development and operations.

Financially Successful– as a market-driven development and partnership with the private sector, Docklands will provide the Victorian economy with a significant positive economic impact through prudent financial management and commercial forward planning.

By 2020, Melbourne Docklands is expected to become:

  • Home to 17,000 people
  • Workplace to 40,000
  • Destination for 55,000 visitors per day
